Photo booth portrait, color print on paper, 11,6 x 8,8 cm

Many artists have worked with the photo booth, that ‘poor” photographic medium which was the subject of an exhibition at the Élysée, Lausanne in 2012. At the intersection of works such as ID Project, Undefined and Traces #2, this chance discovery, with its unconscious beauty, a botched anonymous attempt at capturing identity, this swept, disembodied snapshot, found in Paris in 2004 and presented as a readymade, naturally finds its place at the heart of Batniji’s exploration as a fragile and discreet element of synthesis embodying the whole.
