“Pas perdus”, 2019-2020
Series of 102 drawings / rubbings, charcoal and graphite on Arches Johannot paper, 35,5 x 28 cm (each)
Since 2019, in the course of his urban wanderings, Batniji has been making rubbings of the footprints of unknown passers-by directly from the ground. By rubbing his pencil over the paper, he meticulously picks up the inverted trace of the soles of their shoes incrusted in the asphalt of the pavements. In the texture of the dark grey, a form appears.
Traces of a fleeting presence, images preserved from disappearance, these drawings are captures, acts of witness located between appearance and disappearance. They reveal a movement, a person walking, a life that came this way.
